Marie grew up in North Texas and attended Texas Wesleyan University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. After college, Marie taught high school algebra for two years.

Marie received her J.D. from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in May 2005, magna cum laude, and was licensed to practice law in November 2005. During law school, Marie served as the Executive Editor of Thurgood Marshall Law Review and placed first in the Henry Doyle Moot Court Competition. After law school, Marie practiced law at a small litigation firm in the labor and employment section.

During her free time, Marie enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.
